Collagen-based biomaterials have a large range of applications both in vivo and in vitro. Excellent biocompatibility due to weak antigenicity and safety due to biodegradability, makes collagen a primary resource in medical applications. With our comprehensive portfolio of collagen biomaterials and extensive technical expertise, we will decrease your costs and time to market.

collagen-benefits bone graft substitutes Bone Graft Substitutes
Bioceramics, such as beta tricalcium phosphate and hydroxyapatite, bioactive glass, and other osteoconductive materials are used in the repair and regeneration of bone defects that have developed from disease or due to trauma. The addition of collagen to these materials dramatically improves the handling properties of the bone void filler and encourages cell ingrowth that is needed for tissue regeneration. Collagen Solutions has experience developing synthetic bone graft substitutes for a number of applications, including spine, extremities, and dental.
collagen benefits cartilage repair Cartilage Repair
Collagen scaffolds can be designed to mimic and regenerate native tissues and are being increasingly used in cartilage repair. The pore structure and degradation rate of these scaffolds can be engineered to promote hyaline cartilage regeneration. These scaffolds can be used in cell-free or as a substrate for cell-based therapies.
  Tendon Repair
Resorbable membranes and wraps have been shown to protect underlying tissues in the case of tendon trauma. Decellularized ECM or engineering collagen tendon wraps are excellent materials for the repair of soft tissue, such as of rotator cuffs, patellar tendons, Achilles tendon, biceps, quadriceps, and more. Collagen formulations can also be used to coat synthetic tendons and ligaments to enhance cell recruitment and vascularization.
collagen benefits dental membrane Dental Membranes
These devices are used in dental applications to guide soft tissue regeneration and inhibit the rapid regrowth of skin when implanting bone which takes longer to regenerate. Collagen Solutions has experience supplying raw materials for and manufacturing dental membranes using processed collagen or decellularized tissues.
collagen benefits wound dressing Collagen Wound Dressings
Collagen is naturally involved in all phases of the wound-healing cascade and the use of collagen-based wound dressings provides several benefits for acute and chronic wound closure. Additionally, collagen dressings can be designed to control the moisture of the wound bed, by either providing or absorbing moisture. Collagen Solutions has experience developing dressings, particles, and flowable scaffolds for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds.
  Skin Substitutes
In cases of extensive skin loss, such as severe trauma or burns, skin grafts have several limitations, including the lack of availability of donor tissue. As an alternative, skin substitutes have been developed to replace skin defects using engineered materials. Acellular skin substitutes can be manufactured from decellularized ECM and can be used alone or in combination with other materials, such as glycosaminoglycans or silicon membranes. Collagen scaffolds can also be used with cells in tissue engineered grafts. In this case, the collagen acts as a substrate for the delivery of cells such as keratinocytes and fibroblasts.
collagen benefits dermal filler Dermal Fillers
Soft tissue fillers are injected directly into the skin to minimize the appearance of wrinkles by physically plumping the skin. Collagen dermal fillers stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen and the scaffold will be replaced with native collagen within months.
  Vascular Closure Devices
Vascular closure devices provide immediate sealing of arterial punctures and are an alternative to manual compression. An intravascular anchor is secured to a collagen plug on the outside of the artery to plug the puncture and promote hemostasis.
  Others
Collagen Solutions has experience providing raw materials and developing products for numerous other applications, including dural grafts, nerve tubes, ophthalmic shields, tear duct plugs, and more.
